The Willows Gemfields
The Willows is well-know for having unusually coloured sapphires.
Some of the world's most famous sapphires have been found here, including a 332 caret rough yellow, aptly named the "Golden Willow".
It is a popular fossicking spot as very little machinery, and no
corporate mining has been permitted here in the past.
Located in central Queensland the gem fields are only 4 hours
west of Rockhampton and cover almost 900 square kilometres of one of the most
significant sapphire bearing grounds in the world.
Whether you are after a fossicking adventure or wish to take in the history and culture that is an old mining town,
the surrounding area made up of the delightful towns of Anakie, Sapphire, Rubyvale and the Willows, won't disappoint.
